Our commitment to a sustainable future

“For lixtec, sustainability is not just a buzzword, but a core value that shapes our business. As a developer and manufacturer of radar sensors for motion detection in public lighting, we are aware of our responsibility to protect the environment and conserve natural resources. Our products enable light on demand, thereby avoiding energy wastage and unnecessary light emissions. This not only supports the achievement of national and international climate targets, such as the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), but also helps to improve the quality of life in communities and cities. We are convinced that innovative technology and sustainable thinking go hand in hand and that through our work we can make a positive contribution to a future worth living.”

Smart street lighting for a sustainable future

Our innovative smart lighting solutions make a tangible contribution to reducing CO2 emissions and conserving valuable resources. We are convinced that technology is the key to a more environmentally friendly future – and our numbers speak for themselves.

The product carbon footprint of a lix.one sensor is approximately 4.74 kg of CO2, which is offset by a significant annual CO2 saving of about 13.5 kg per LED street light with a lixtec radar sensor. This impressively highlights the positive impact of our technology on the environmental balance.

Currently, we have around 6,000 sensors in operation, controlling up to 10,000 lights. If all these lights were in Austria, with an average power consumption of 35 watts per light and average traffic volume, this would equate to an annual CO2 saving of around 133 tonnes. In Germany, with its different energy mix, the annual CO2 savings would be even higher, at approximately 440 tonnes.

lixtec has set an ambitious goal: By 2030, we aim to have one million sensor units in operation worldwide, thus playing a major role in shaping the future of urban lighting.

CO2 Emissions

In 2024, lixtec caused 148 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

Product Carbon Footprint

The production of a lix.one sensor generates approximately 4.74 kg of CO2. An active sensor saves approximately 13.5 kg of CO2 per year.

UN Goals

UN Sustainable Development Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities.

Green House Gas Balance 2024 - Graz Climate Pact

The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are our compass for responsible action. Our business model contributes to SDG 11: Sustainable cities and communities. After all, smart street lighting is the backbone of a future-oriented energy infrastructure that has a significant impact on the quality of life and safety in our cities.

To further solidify our commitment, we joined the Graz Climate Pact in 2024. For this purpose, we conducted a survey of our company’s sustainability status and calculated our greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for 2024.

Our CO2 emissions in 2024 were 148 tonnes of CO2 equivalent (tCO2e). Of this, 45 tCO2e are attributed to the use of all sensors sold in 2024 over their entire 20-year lifespan. This is offset by a CO2 saving of at least 32 tCO2e in a single year from the same number of sensors (based on the Austrian energy mix).
